Blog Post 2 Draft grades round 1
For this blog post I am going to grade round 1 draft picks made by each teams A+ means its a franchise home run pick
Cardinals pick 1 Kyler Murray C+
(Not a fan of this pick nor is there fanbase Murray can be a good talent only problem is the Cardinals have many needs and Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams could have been the start around building a team around Josh Rosen.
Niners pick 2 Nick Bosa A+
They got a gift from their fellow division rival and it’s a good one. Nick Bosa is a special player and will be a force for years to come
Jets pick 3 Quinnen Williams A+
Jets could have traded down but got their guy here to be a force on the dline for years to come with Leonard Williams some say he is the best player in the draft you cannot argue that
Raiders pick 4 Clelin Ferrell, pick 24 Josh Jacobs, pick 27 Johnathan Abram B
A reach at four that they could have got at 24 or 27 its not a nad pick but they passed on Josh Allen, Devin White, Ed Oliver for Ferrell. Jacobs and Abram are great picks who will produce for Gruden on day 1 and help fill big needs but because of the reach at four they get a B.
Bucs pick 5 Devin White A
Bucs get their field general in Devin White to be the heart of their defense it was not a hard pick and they made the right choice as a result they get an A despite passing on Allen
Giants pick 6 Daniel Jones pick 17 Dexter Lawrence pick 31 Deandre Baker C-
Yikes did the giants get played taking Jones over Oliver, Allen, Haskins it is a shame as I’m not high on Daniel Jones and for him to get taken at 6 is the worst pick first round. They took Lawrence at 17 and its not a bad pick but feels like a reach but he will be an inside presence but they could have traded back and still gotten him. As for the Baker pick they traded back to get him and well he was my 3rd rated corner my board so realistically I’m not a fan of the pick . Giants took gold and turned it into dust.
Jags pick 7 Josh Allen A+
Imagine being linked to offense in every mock draft but getting the best pass rusher in the draft in Josh Allen fall right into your laps. Duuuval gets a new toy on their defense and the Jags hit a home run with this pick .
Lions pick 8 TJ Hockerson B+
Lions went need over talent here went TE in round 1 yet again. The pick here for me was trading back or taking Montez Sweat or ED Oliver but the Packers wanted him too. So it’s a good pick but not a great pick as they have pass rush issues and corner issues still too outside of Darius Slay
Bills Pick 9 Ed Oliver A+
Imagine like the Jags having Ed Oliver a top 4 talent fall right into your laps without having to trade up this what happened to the Bills they get a freak to replace Kyle Williams in Ed Oliver
Steelers pick 10 Devin Bush B
Traded up a lot to get their replacement for Ryan Shazier but I’m not as high on Bush as Devin White but its still a solid pick
Bengals pick 11 Jonah Williams B+
Solid pick to protect Andy Dalton here but you have a feeling Bengals fans wanted a playmaker here either way they get the best player in the draft
Packers pick 12 Rashan Gary pick 21 Darnell Savage Jr. C
Not a fan both of these pick think they are both a reach they took Gary who has shoulder concerns at 12 instead of oline to protect Rodgers and Brian Burns Montez Sweat. Savage is a good pick taken in the wrong spot there was no reason to trade up for him and Noah Fant should have consider for the Packers as well.
Dolphins pick 13 Christan Wilkins A-
Instead of trading down the Dolphins got Wilkins who is great value on the interior dline will be a force in the AFC East as a day 1 starter rebuilding dolphins who focused on defense in this draft minus Josh Rosen
Falcons pick 14 Chris Lindstrom Pick 31 Kaleb McGary C+
Lindstrom pick seems like a reach but it was not its solid and he can help protect Matt Ryan be a starter in day 1 and can argue hes the best guard in this draft. What was a reach however was the McGary pick there was no need to trade up despite the need to protect Matt Ryan to trade back up into the first round to take a solid not great tackle in McGary.
Redskins pick 15 Dwyane Haskins pick 26 Montez Sweat A+
Probably the best draft out of all the teams Skins get their franchise QB and add to their front 7 filling a need in a top 10 talent in Montez Sweat while only giving up one pick in 2020 2nd rounder.
Panthers pick 16 Brain Burns pick 16 A
Panthers get their pass rusher to replace Peppers who retired and Burns is one of the better first round talents who can set the edge and rush the passer.
Vikings pick 18 Garrett Bradbury A
Easy pick for the Vikings take the best center in the draft who can also play guard to protect your investment in Kirk Cousins and they did just that with this pick
Titans pick 19 Jeffrey Simmons A+
Did not expect them to take him here thought he fall into the 20s but even though he will miss some time. Simmons is a top 10 talent when he is on the field will be a monster paired up with Jerrell Casey
Broncos pick 20 Noah Fant A-
Broncos traded back got some picks and gave their QB of Drew Lock and Joe Flacco a much needed athletic weapon on offense in Noah Fant the 2nd best TE in the draft behind his teammate Hockerson overall a great pick by Elway and company.
Eagles pick 22 Andre Dillard A
Robbed the Texans of the franchise LT/RT by trading up it was a cold move but a smart man getting their LT of the future to replace Jason Peters
Texans pick 23 Tytus Howard D
Horrible pick they should have traded up for Dillard if they wanted him so bad the Texans are down there one of the worst drafts, Its bad when their 2nd round pick Lonnie Johnson was better then there first. It was a panic pick and they should have traded back after losing their top choice Howard is not one of the oline I like in this draft hes big but slow and lacks technique.
Ravens pick 25 Marquise Brown A
Getting Lamar Jackson a weapon while getting more picks trading back the Ravens hit a homerun this draft helping Lamar Jackson. Brown is my number 1 WR this WR class a deep threat who can change games with one pick. Ravens went a theme with speed this draft Brown will be a stud for years to come.
Chargers 28 Jerry Tillery B+
Took care of a need over talent here which is okay in some situations. Tillery got great upside Chargers take care of a need inside. Tillery has a chance to be a monster with Melvin Ingham Joey Bosa potentially drawing double teams.
Seahawks pick 29 L.J. Collier B
Seahawks love trading back in drafts getting rid of pick 21 he will be an instant day 1 starter but I’m not too high on him as much as the other pass rushers In the draft.
Patriots pick 32 N’Keal Harry A-
Thought they would go Irv Smith Jr. here but Harry is my 2nd graded WR behind Marquise Brown and well getting Tom Brady as your QB is great. Harry is a monster and could fit in well with the Pats offense in a quest for another ring if Josh Gordon does not come back he takes his role if Gordon does comes back good luck guarding both of these two same field.
