SPMT Week 10 Blog Post 2: Masters Picks and Favorites

Masters picks

Ah yes it’s that time of year again the Masters golf that  2nd week in April where golfers take that famous drive down Magnolia Lane to compete for the coveted Green Jacket. An interesting stat this week coming into the Masters not one golfer in the current top 10 owns a Masters victory. The highest rated golfer that does own one is 12th rated Tiger Woods. Which means this Masters is as unpredictable as it gets any golfer in good form can win it. There are also a lot of storylines coming into the Masters. Will Rory Mcllroy finally conquer his Masters demons and complete the Golf Grand Slam with the best form of his career since his last major win? Will Jordan Spieth recapture his previous form at the place he has dominated in the past? Will Tiger Woods be in contention on Sunday and capture Major number 15? Who will be number one  golfer in the world? Will there be a repeat winner for the first time since Tiger Woods in 2002 ? All these are major storylines going into the first major of the year. I will provide my Masters picks for the first time since creating this blog.

10 golfers who can win the masters and people who just missed the cut who can win the Masters if i did not mention you in any of my picks below then i do not think you will be in contention on Sunday  or can win the Masters

11 Louis Oosthuizen (played well match always underrated at the Masters was T12 last year but in better form this year would not shock me to see his name top of the leaderboard on Sunday)

10  Tommy Fleetwood (Number 12 player the world always sneaky at Majors  I like to call him Mr. Low round always will how the low round of the day next day shot in the 70s but a winner in Abu Dhabi this year and recording top 5s at API and Players Championship has me feeling good of Fleetwood’s chances but his history at the Masters has him lower on this list but watch out

9Tony Finau  (Finished top 10 all majors last year )

8 Rickie Fowler ( back in the winner circle and was in it until the last hole last year he’s due for a major if the condtions fit his style he might get it done )

7 Dustin Johnson ( dominated in Mexico but is lower on this list because of past history at the Masters and the putter is hot and cold but currently is a top 3 golfer in the world so he has to be a favorite)

6 Tiger Woods (He’s the goat that is all I need to say)

5 Jordan Spieth ( he loves the Masters always at the top of the leaderboard despite bad form)

4 Justin Thomas ( simple the course fits his style of play out of all the majors PGA a close 2nd  aggressive irons with high ball flight a Par 72 and being one of the best putters on tour I expect to see his name either leading or on the first page the leaderboard come Sunday

3 Brooks Kopeka ( not his best form coming in lost some weight offseason but he’s the player of the year for a reason he did not play last year Masters  but the way he’s been playing rising to the occasion  in majors with  three wins  in two years he needs to be at the top of everyone favorites

2 Justin Rose (Mr.  consistency  best golfer my mind not hottest currently on the planet the past year will his play finally be rewarded a major  I think so

1 Rory Mcllroy (hottest golfer train wreck coming in only question is can he conquer the golf course that has his number )

Others not mention who could win as well

Bubba Watson, John Rahm, Francesco Molinari, Paul Casey,

Out of these 11 golfers my pick to win the Masters Justin Rose is my pick playing in the best form of his career since last year loves playing the Masters worst start ever there is a T39 so you can always account for him being towards the top of the leaderboard and has two runners up in 2015 and 2017 you can argue that had his back not tighten up in 2017 he have a green jacket but he has the putter to finally get one in 2019 and the way he’s playing is only a matter of time before he wins his 2nd major

Sleeper picks Kevin Kisner, Henrick Stenson ,Gary Woodland ,Patrick Cantley and  Kevin Na

Darkhorses – Rafa Cabera Bello Hideki Matsuyama
