Redskins 53 man Roster Projections

Redskins 53 man Roster Projections

Quarterbacks 3

(Dwayne Haskins, Case Keenum, Colt McCoy)

Pretty easy that the Redskins would keep 3 QBs despite McCoy injury. It remains to be seen if McCoy is placed on the IR designated to return list. I doubt however you want to waste one of your spots on a backup quarterback. Case Keenum will be a starter come week 1 with Dwayne  Haskins backing him up.

Running Backs 4

(Adrian Peterson, Darrius Guice, Chris Thompson Samaje Pernie)

These three were always locks to make the 53 man roster. As for the others Samaje Pernie did not have a good preseason for the Redskins and has not just worked out. However Jay Gruden has a Ryan Grant obsession with Pernie so his spot is safe for now.  Same goes for Byron Marshall who also did not play well Thursday to secure a spot.  Craig Reynolds and Shaun Wilson impressed in camp to be solid practice squad candidates.

Tight Ends 3

(Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremey Sprinkle)

The core Redskins tight end group for the past couple of years will remain the same. JP Holtz did a god job of trying to make it interesting. However I do not see the Redskins carrying four tight ends come the regular season.

Wide Receivers 7

(Josh Docston, Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, Terry Mclaurin, Kevin Harmon, Robert Davis, Steve Simms Jr)

Josh Docston future remains dark for the Redskins. He may not be on the roster in a few days meaning right now I have the Redskins keeping seven wide receivers. Robert Davis did enough the first two games of the preseason to secure his roster spot. Steven Simms Jr. ability on special teams will play a part in the Redskins keeping him.

Offensive Line 9

(Donald Penn, Wes Martin, Chase Rouiller, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ross Pierschbancer, Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers, (linemen off the waiver wire).

Not much competition here really as everyone spot is pretty much locked down. However I see the Redskins cutting Tony Bergstrom and bringing in  another olinemen off the waiver wire.

Defensive Line 5

(Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Daron Payne, Tim Settle and Caleb Brantley)

The best unit of the Redskins, there was no question it would always be these five on the opening day roster.

Outside Linebackers 5

(Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Ryan Anderson, Cassanova McKinzy, Person to be signed outside roster)

Did not see the Redskins keeping 5 outside linebackers despite McKinzy injury.  Reports say he should be good to go for the  Eagles game. However for depth reason Marcus Smith will be the surprise of the 53 man roster.  Rest of the outside linebackers were pretty obvious.

Inside Linebackers 4

(Shaun Dion Hamilton, Jon Bostic, Josh Harvey Clemmons, Cole Holcomb)

I think this is a solid group of young players and do not see the Redskins adding a veteran just yet. Shaun Dion Hamiliton and Jon Bostic will be the starting inside linebackers.

Cornerbacks 6

(Josh Norman, Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, DRC, Jimmy Morland, Greg Stroman)

Adonis Alexander never truly has fit in with the Redskins yet. So I have him getting cut in favor Stroman. The rest of the corners were well known who be on the 53 man roster. If healthy this should be an exciting group to watch this year for the Redskins.

Safeties 4

(Landon Collins, Monte Nicholson, Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett)

Jeremey Reeves tried his best to make the 53 man roster but he will just fall short. You just knew coming into training camo these four would be the safeties on the 53 man roster. However depth remains an issues and concern for me with this group.

Special Teams 3

(Tress Way, Dustin Hopkins, Nick Sundberg)

No question it would always be these three guys on the 53 man roster.
