SPMT 430 Week 12 Blog Post 2: Top Five Golfers in the World my rank

Top Five  golfers in the world my rank

In my new annual tradition  to keep up with the golf themed blogs the week after a major I will give my current top Five in golf in order basing it off of  results, play and other factors such as world rankings.

Number 5

Brooks Koepka – he is the man at Majors right now being on top of things with 3 majors in two years and player of the year 2018. However you cannot show up four times a year to be best golfer in the world. Koepka lost some weight in the offseason and lost some distance off the tee  and Masters was his first time  he really in the thick of things on Sunday. More good play into the summer will move up back up towards the 1 spot maybe in contention at the PGA .

Number 4

Rory Mcllroy

You know the way he’s been playing he should be higher on this list after his win at the Players. However one win does not justify the missed chances Rory has had to dominate golf so far. Chance after chance he had a chance to close out tournaments but could not get it done he has not been good with 54 hole leads. His driver is his weapon hitting it long but his wedges have been lackluster his putter is hot and cold. His poor showing at the Masters moved him down to this spot and of course Tiger beating him at the WGC Match Play factors head to head and really i could put him at five but i have to respect him being in contention more then Brooks Koepka  .

Number 3

Justin Rose

A missed cut at the Masters knocks him down to 2 really I was tempted to put him at 3 but  the the most consistent golfer on this list last year deserves his praise . He has slow a little bit since his win at the Farmers Insurance Open with 2 missed cuts. Him and Dustin Johnson have been flip flopping from 1 and 2 on the World Golf Rankings with Johnson with the upper hand for now. However a dominate win at the Farmers Insurance Open along with two top 10s and having the best putter in the world locks him in at two on this list but the guys behind him are close to passing him despite him still being a threat.

Number 2

Tiger Woods

Yes he is back and the bias in me wants to stay he is number one golfer in the world after winning number 15 the Masters . However I’m going to use the wait and see approach here and know a big win does not take away what the other golfer above him on this list have done as well. Tiger Woods sits number 6 in the world and one more win will put him in the conversation for best golfer in the world. He is the best iron player in the world  he beat Rory head to head twice beat out Koepka at the Masters to avenge the PGA . When you look at that leaderboard what he accomplished and the look in his eye the shots he pulled off that looked like Tiger Woods we are used to watching that is scary to say. His  putting has been holding him back from being in contention more before the Masters win and well it could have been a blow out if he putted better for short range but for now he sits at two but his stick is going on up.

Number 1

Dustin Johnson

Man on man is Dustin Johnson good at golf let me tell you is last six events and finishes. T9, Win, T5, T6, T40, and a T2 at the Masters with a late back nine charge. That is as good as it gets  especially when he dominated at Mexico and got a win at the Saudi International as well . Right now he is the 54 hole leader at the RBC Heritage so he might add another a 3rd win to his already good season. When his putter is hot he is hard to beat with his impressive tea game leaving him in good 2nd shot distances  wise to leave himself good looks.

This list is purely my opinion and will change as the season goes on but on the basis on what I have watched I believe these five are 100% the best five golfers in the world and the order you want to put them in is up to you but here is my list see you guys for PGA Championship week its great to be a golf fan.
